Watermarks serve two essential purposes: they communicate a document's status (Draft, Confidential, For Review Only) and they assert ownership over shared content. Our watermark tool lets you add customizable text or image watermarks to every page of a PDF in seconds — no design software needed.

Text watermarks are fully configurable. Choose the wording (common options include DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, SAMPLE, DO NOT COPY, and company names), set the font size, pick a color, and adjust the opacity so the watermark is visible without obscuring the underlying content. The text is rendered diagonally across each page by default, but you can switch to horizontal or vertical placement. A semi-transparent gray at 30% opacity is the most popular setting for internal review copies.

Image watermarks let you overlay a logo, seal, or signature on every page. Upload a PNG or JPG image, position it (center, corner, or tiled), and adjust the transparency. This is ideal for branding client-facing deliverables, stamping legal seals on certified copies, or adding a photographer's watermark to portfolio PDFs.

Practical applications are everywhere. Architects watermark preliminary drawings before client review. Legal teams mark privileged documents before sharing with external parties. Marketing departments brand sales decks with the company logo. Publishers overlay "REVIEW COPY" on pre-release manuscripts sent to critics.

The watermark is applied to the visual layer of each page, making it part of the rendered content. It cannot be removed by simply toggling a visibility setting in a PDF viewer — the recipient sees the watermark as an integral part of the document.

Files are processed securely in the cloud and deleted within one hour. The tool requires no account for basic usage and applies no watermark of its own — only the one you define.

Free users can watermark documents up to 50 pages. Pro plans support longer documents and batch processing for watermarking multiple files at once.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add both text and image watermarks?
Currently, you can apply one type per operation — either a text watermark or an image watermark. To add both, run the tool twice: first add the text watermark, then upload the result and add the image watermark.
Can the watermark be removed by the recipient?
The watermark is rendered into the page content layer, making it a permanent part of the visual output. It cannot be toggled off in a standard PDF viewer. However, like any visual element, it could be covered or cropped with advanced editing tools.
Can I control the watermark transparency?
Yes. Adjust the opacity from fully transparent (invisible) to fully opaque. A setting of 25–35% is recommended for most use cases — visible enough to communicate the status but light enough to keep the content readable.
Will the watermark appear when printing the document?
Yes. Because the watermark is embedded in the page content, it prints exactly as it appears on screen. This ensures that printed copies carry the same status marking as the digital version.
